Last weekend I had some time booked off work, and with great weather and amazing surf forecasted, me and Nas decided to head out to Newquay to make the most of this rare February phenomenon!

I don’t visit Newquay half as much as I would like to, and as a result, I don’t really know much about the beaches this town has to offer. So we headed first to Newquay’s most popular beach; Fistral. Upon our arrival, we were greeted with spectacular views of the surf. Looking to get a better view of the surfers in action, we didn’t actually make it onto the beach, and instead headed towards Towan headland, to the right hand side of the beach.

From Towan Headland, we had an amazing view of the Cribbar Reef, popular amongst surfers for it’s huge waves, and boy was it delivering! From where we sat and ate last night’s leftover pizza for lunch, we had a great view of the handful of surfers who were braving the heavy waves and deadly reef.
It was at this point that we remembered our parking ticket was about to run out, so we headed back to the car, and drove back into Newquay town. We luckily drove into ‘Belmont Long Stay Car Park’, that conveniently doesn’t charge for parking during the winter months, parked and set off to explore some more of the area.

By simply following the road down towards the sea, we ended up at Newquay Harbour, overlooking Towan Beach. Following the edge of the cliffs, I was able to get right next to where the waves were breaking, to photograph the surfers from an interesting angle. In comparison to Fistral Beach next door, the surf here was tiny, (probably due to the way in which Towan Head shelters this end of Newquay Bay). After staying here for a while, watching the groups of surfers making me very jealous that I hadn’t packed my wetsuit, we decided that it was time for a snack!

With Nas being vegan, selecting a cafe is always a bit of a task, but thanks to good old Google it turned out there was an entirely Veggie/Vegan café just up the road from us, called ‘The Green HeART Café’. Here we were given a warm welcome, and showed to our table that was right next to the snoozing dog pictured above! The artwork was amazing, and the decor was arguably even better, and we loved the idea of the recycled wooden door being used as our table! We ordered a VERY tasty milkshake and cake each (obviously we had to sample each others!), and left the café feeling very full!

By this point the sun was starting to set, so we headed back down the coast to my personal favourite beach, Porthtowan, to watch the sunset. We drove up the cliff road to the left of the beach to an amazing viewpoint, and watched the surf roll peacefully in. Unfortunately, the sky had become pretty hazy by this point so there wasn’t much of a sunset, but it was a great end to an amazing day nonetheless!
I hope you enjoyed reading about this trip, and of course, looking at my photos! Let me know your thoughts; is there anything else you wanted to know about our day out? I’m still figuring this blog stuff out, so let me know your suggestions! That’ll do for this post, thank you for reading!
